DC reviews progress under District Environment Plan

KATHUA, Feb 3: District Development Commissioner, O.P Bhagat today convened a meeting to review the progress under District Environment Plan.
ADC Atul Gupta, RTO Raj Kumar Thapa, CMO, GM DIC, CPO, Divisional Officer Pollution Control Board, PO ICDS, CEO, Municipality EO Billawar and EO Basohli were present in the meeting.
DDC took detailed review of initiatives taken by different departments and agencies to improve the environment scenario of the district. He impressed upon the departments to improve overall parameters of environment in the district especially solid waste management and bio medical waste management. The DDC directed EO Municipality to submit solid waste management plan at the earliest, further directed to ensure dumping and disposal of garbage in conformity with laid down procedure of National Green Tribunal.
DDC directed PO ICDS to sensitize people through anganwadi workers about proper segregation of solid waste in the house besides GM DIC was directed to ensure committee make regular visit of industrial units and ensure installation of pollution devices and treatment units for industrial waste. RTO was directed to give fitness of vehicle only after producing of valid pollution certificate by the vehicle owner.
Threadbare discussion on construction and demolition waste, polluted river stretches, conservation of water bodies, prevention of illegal sand mining, community participation and mass awareness, widespread measures to curb use of plastic/ polythene was also held during the meeting.
