Early Times Repot Srinagar, Feb 3: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday arrested brother of an active militant after questioning, during a raid at his residence in south Kashmir district of Shopian. The raid was conducted in connection with a case involving a police officer, who was arrested alongwith two top Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) last month on Srinagar-Jammu highway. Official sources said that an NIA team conducted several raids in south Kashmir for the second successive day on Monday. "A raid was conducted by NIA at the residence of an active militant, identified as Omar Dobi, at Pinjora in Shopian," they said. They said during the raid brother of the militant, identified as Faizan Ahmad, was detained for questioning. "Faizan was later arrested by the investigating agency," they added. Series of raids were conducted on Sunday and Monday after a 20-member NIA team arrived in Kashmir on Saturday to collect more evidence against Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Davinder Singh whose arrest shook the security agencies in J&K and the Centre. The DySP was arrested by J&K police on the 280-km-long national highway while transporting three people, including two HM commanders Naveed Babu and Rafi Ahmed, to Jammu on January 11. Singh is currently being questioned in Jammu by the NIA officials after getting his transit remand. Multiple raids were conducted by J&K police at his residences in the valley after his arrest. But, after initial investigations by the J&K police, the case was handed over to the NIA. Singh was an office in Anti-hijacking wing of J&K police at Srinagar International Airport, and was part of the security staff that received a group of foreign ambassadors, including US ambassador, who visited Kashmir last month. |
