NABARD's mission 2020-21 for J&K, invests credit potential of Rs 30,760 cr under priority sector | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 5 : NABARD has estimated a credit potential of Rs 30,760 crore under priority sector for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir for the year 2020-21. The UT focus paper containing the details of district wise and sector wise credit potentials arrived at in a holistic manner based on consultation with all stakeholders was launched in the Credit and Development Seminar of NABARD. Thomas Mathew, Regional Director, RBI said here on Wednesday in his key note after inaugurating the seminar. As a marketing initiative to support artisans of J&K and Ladakh, NABARD is going to organize a "Gramya Kala Shilp Mela" from March 12 to 16 at Kala Kendra, Jammu. The seminar discussed on the areas for a sustainable and inclusive development of the Union Territory including farmers collectives through FPOs, developing walnut as a commercial crop, enhancing productivity in Saffron. A new eco system for handicrafts through OFPOs, Storage and Marketing infrastructure for Apple, Strengthening of Dairy cooperatives as a pilot project, improving the ancient network of Zamindari Kuhls in Kashmir, developing a marketing infrastructure for vegetables around Jammu, Financial Literacy for Panchayat members, were among topics discussed in the seminar. The seminar presented the potential linked credit estimates for various sub-sectors of priority sector which include Rs 15799.67 crore for agriculture (Rs 14320.17 crore), in farm credit, Rs 458.89 crore for agriculture infrastructure, Rs 640.07 for food and agro processing etc and Rs 10630.03 crore for MSME segment etc for year 2020-21. NABARD released a short film on E-Shakti, a digitization pilot project for SHGs and a booklet titled "Saffron to Marigold", a glimpse of NABARD initiatives in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh which reflected the impact of various projects/programmes implemented by NABARD at ground level. The various products of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and Off-Farm Producer Organization (OFPO) supported by NABARD were also demonstrated in Stalls. The event was attended by Dr. Nazeer Ahmed, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Kashmir, Dr. K.S. Risam, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu, R. K. Chhibber, Convenor UTLBC/Chairman J&K Bank and other senior bankers and officials, who put forth their views. |
