Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 5: A National Seminar entitled "Assessment and Evaluation: Recent trends and Challenges" begins in the Department of Educational Studies, Central University of Jammu under the prestigious National Scheme of MHRD,'Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching' (PMMMNMTT). The major objective of the seminar is to address holistically all the areas of effective assessment and evaluation practices for quality education. The seminar aims to bring the academicians, administrators, faculty members, policy makers, researchers and students under one roof to share their views and ideas and explore the new possibilties for the effective implementation of assessment and evaluation in teaching-learning process. The seminar was inaugurated by presenting the bouquet to the guests followed by lamp lightening ceremony with Saraswati Vandana. Dr J N Baliya, Head, Department of Educational Studies, CUJ welcomed the guests, delegates, resource persons and participants who have graced the event from various universities across the country. Dr Baliya impressed upon the audience about the need of the quality assessment and evaluation in educational process. He has also highlighted the major activities undertaken by the School of Education, CUJ, under PMMMNMT. TheCo-ordinator of the Seminar, Dr Ritu Bakshi, Associate Professor, Department of the Educational Studies, CUJby quoting the former President of India, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam said thatthe best minds of the country are often found on the last benches of the classroom.Therefore,it the need of the hour to revisit the present practices of the asessment and evaluation for quality based solutions to the whole Education system of the country. By delivering the keynote address, Prof. Amit Kouts, Head and Dean, Deptt of Eduaction, GNDU, cited that PMMMNMTT was launched to develop teachers in the field of teaching learning and evaluation. Prof. Ashok Aima, VC, CUJ, stressed on synergy building among the intellectuals of the various educational institutes and character building in the students that need to be started from the school level. He also added that the ecosystem of intellectual development need to be focused in the schools. He strongly pointed out that in India survival is easy but recognition is tough. Therefore, our young minds need to be trained for thinking new possibilities. The plenary session was chaired by Prof Kiran Deep Kour, Department of Education, Punjabi University, Patiala. The key speakers in the session were Prof. Vishal Sood, Head and Dean, Department of Education, CUHP, Dr Sudhir Singh, Joint secretary, JKBOSE, Dr Vipin Verma, Principal, GDC Udhampur and Dr J N Baliya. |
