After PM's speech in Parliament chances of early release of Farooq, Omar, Mehbooba look bleak | | | Early Times Report jammu, Feb 6: Jammu, February 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech in Parliament in support of President's speech on Motion of Thanks, is a clear indication that Union Government is unlikely to release three former Chief Ministers (CMs) immediately. Prime Minister quoted "highly provocative" statements given by Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti before abrogation of Article 370 and 35-A. He especially mentioned statements of Mehbooba Mufti, in which she had challenged sovereignty and integrity of the nation. "There have been statements made by former Chief Ministers of Jammu and Kashmir that are not acceptable to us", Prime Minister while exposing those who have been demanding release of these leaders. He reiterated that the situation in J&K has improved dramatically after abrogation of Article 370 and formation of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Prime Minister refuted the opposition members' contention that the decision on Article 370 had been rushed through without a discussion. Clarifying that the decisions on Jammu and Kashmir had been taken only after extensive discussions in Parliament, the Prime Minister said that immediately after Article 370 was revoked, the underprivileged people in the new Union Territory could avail the benefits of reservation. Taking pride in the abrogation of Article 370, PM Modi asserted, "For the first time in decades, the people of Jammu and Kashmir have got the benefits of reservation. There were BDC polls, RERA came into being there. For the first time, Jammu and Kashmir got a comprehensive start-up, trade and logistics policy. An anti-corruption bureau was set up there." Meanwhile the government is likely to keep Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, both former CMs in detention in Srinagar. Omar and Mehbooba were detained in August, when the government annnounced scrapping of Article 370. The Government is said to be considering whether to keeping using Section 107 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, or to use the Public Safety Act (PSA). |
