Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 7: Sainik Samaj Party today brought out the discrimination to veterans and their families being done by Kashmir Centre Politics for last 72 years. President of the Part Colonel S S Pathania, Shaurya Chakra requested Lt Governor to look into the genuine grievances of Armed forces Veterans and revise the policies for issuing of fresh instructions post removal of article 370 and 35 A, at conversion of rest while State of J&K to the Union Territory. Salient points which need urgent attention of the Government have been given in succeeding paragraphs. In our neighboring States i.e. Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan reservation quota in Government jobs is 15% where as in our Union Territory Quota is only 6% that to horizontal, implying virtually no reservation. Also reservation is given only in grade 3 and 4 Jobs with no reservation in Grade land 2.
It is pertinent to mention that a soldier who gives the best year of his life in serving the nation is forced to retire a very young age of 36 to 37 years. A meager pension of Rs 14000/- is grossly inadequate for retired person to look after the educational aspects of their children and also fulfill various family and social obligations.
Ex-gratia grant is given to the martyrs when they, lay down their life in line of duty fighting militants / in enemy action. In addition to Ex-gratia grant a job is also provided to one of the family member of the martyr under SRO-43.
This provision applies only when a soldier belonging to J&K attains Marty down within the State of J&K, in case he attains Marty down any wherein else in the country against militants / in enemy action provisions of ex-gratia and job under SRO 43 is not given. This is a serious matter and needs to be addressed at the earliest.
The upper limit of cap of 48 years age has been set while applying for the Govt. Jobs by Ex-servicemen. 50% of veterans are not able to apply for the jobs due to this age restrictions as some Departments advertise for the post after a gap of 3-6 years. It is recommended the upper age for applying the Govt. Jobs be raised to 55 years / whining three years of retirements and at par with the Central Govt, and our neighboring State Policies on the subject.
