Shakespearean romance and fable in Rajasthani attire is ‘Kasoomal Sapno’ | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 7: A Rajasthani set up to Shakespeare’s "Mid Summer Nights Dream", a romantic comedy where the plot revolves around four lovers in an imaginative jungle of Amrogarh was the play Kasoomal Sapno . It is an interweaving of layers of society: the palace, the group of amateur actors and the world of puppets. The Rajasthani attire blended with Marwah dialect full of colours, songs, music and a fairy tale plot marked the sixth day of the ongoing Nutan International Theatre Festival-2020 organised by Lakshya-The Aim and Nutan Prayas Manch at Abhinav Theatre today. The play Kasoomal Sapno presented by Ujagar Dramatic Association, Jaipur, and directed by Ajit Singh Palawat was an adaptation from Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night Dream. The production included all elements of an imaginary love story of two couples confused in an imaginary village where a king has announced fortunes for a drama group that can infuse life into his ailing wife. Romance and comedy takes the centrestage among the four young lovers, dominated by fairies that inhabit the forest in which most of the play is set. Three interlocking plots that go hand-in-hand on a same night which are set in the backdrop of total confusion as the drama artist to perform in front of the king do not want reveal their plots to get bestowed with fortunes by the king. The adventurous anecdotes and small pieces of interspersed humor and comedy keep the plots rolling and audience glued to the production. The songs and music closely identified with all type audience set the rhythm in swing as various artists in different roles give captivating performances. The drama that showcased a world of dreams of four lovers and their confusions was bedecked with huge backdrop, sparkling costumes and correct body language as is demanded in Shakespearean plays And what else could give more color to Shakespeare than Rajasthan. The musicality in the text itself helped tie to incorporate few per formative art forms juxtaposed with the extinct folk form of Rajasthan — Naqal to create an innovative performance style. Those who played lead roles included Shahjahan Hussain, Rajveer Singh Palawat, Asif Khan, Bharti, Shubham, Poornima and Mahadev. Music was from Raghuveer Yadav while lyrics were written by Vipin Kumar. Shiv Prasad designed the lights while Sahil operated. The team management was done by Ankush Kulshreshta.
