Ground water being misused in Udhampur, concerned Deptt in deep slumber

Udhampur, Feb 14: The ground water is being misused enormously in entire Udhampur town while the authorities concerned are in deep slumbers.
Reliable sources informed that many hotels, industries and other such trade and business organisations have established bore wells even some influential are illegally sale the water in their premises without any permission from any department and are ruthlessly consuming the water for commercial purposes. A senior engineer working in a company at Noida informed that all such activities pose grave threat to the ground water which may fall very low in Udhampur and its adjoining areas.
“As forests are being cut there are rare ways left to replenish the used ground water,” a environmental activist said adding that Central Ground Water Commission and other such organisations should take a cognisance of these wrong activities. Many people in Udhampur areas have to travel large distances to fetch potable water as many natural water springs have water level reduced.
Fateh Singh -a villager of Rathian said that commercial activities in industrial area is finishing up the waters in the bowlies . He also said that few months ago wanted to know the number of commercial hand pumps in the district Udhampur through RTI as locals have complained that water in traditional springs has reduced due to increase in the number of commercial hand pumps which are being operated illegally.
When contacted XEn PHE Udhampur and he said that I look into the matter and within soon we will try to installation of flow meters on commercial hand pumps who bored by the permission of concern otherwise take strict action against those who were found illegally and not fallow the norms .
