No birthday celebrations for detained Omar Abdullah | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Feb 14: Former Chief Minister Omar and National Conference working President Omar Abdullah is unlikely to hold his birthday celebrations next month. For 49-year-old Omar, whose 50th birthday is scheduled on March 10, the day is likely to be another routine day in detention under the Public Safety Act or PSA recently imposed upon him.Sources said his family had plans to take a small birthday cake for him but that he is unlikely to allow it. Omar, who has grown a long salt and pepper beard, as per his insiders, is a changed man since he was detained on August 5, 2019 in the wake of the abrogation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir."He is a changed man. One can only imagine plight of a man who has been in solitary confinement,” said a family insider on the condition of anonymity. While Omar’s sisters have been in contact with their brother and try to give him all moral support, the former Chief Minister is said to be pensive most of the times.Recently Omar’s sister Sara Abdullah moved Supreme Court challenging his detention under the PSA. It is pertinent to mention that Omar and his father and NC patron Farooq Abdullah, NC patron Farooq Abdullah, and the former CM Mehbooba Mufti have been booked under the PSA that was framed by Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah. In 1978, Omar’s grandfather, Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah had introduced the PSA.
