Injustice with PHE daily wagers must be done away with, water supply be restored: Raman Suri | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 14: Expressing shock over the death of a PHE daily wager who was protesting in cold weather in Rajouri and showing concern over extension of ongoing strike of Public Health Engineering (PHE) staff, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K Executive Member Raman Suri urged the UT administration to adequately compensate the family of deceased and sort out issues of these striking workers who are running the water supplies since past several years. He said that the extension of ongoing strike by PHE workers has already resulted in poor supply of potable water in Jammu, adding that the matter should immediately be resolved so that people get regular water and issues of these workers are also addressed amicably. Raman Suri said since 22,000 daily wagers had been running water supply schemes in Jammu City and its peripheries without any flaw, their demands seem to be just and genuine. This is a big number of workers who had been running water supply since past over two decades without getting their services regularised. This is an issue that needs to be looked into compassionately. Raman Suri urged Lieutenant Governor G C Murmu to direct officials to take this issue seriously and ensure proper regularisation of all daily wages besides establishing that all recruitments from here onwards are not done casually but by Service Selection Board (SSB) or Public Service Commission (PSC). Over the past seventy years, successive governments had been playing with the career of youth by recruiting them as daily wages or starting schemes like Rehbar-e-Taleem, Rehbar-e-Sehat or Rehbar-e-Khel. |
