Rajouri, Feb 25: About 30 kilometers of road leading to famous Shadra Shaeif shrine in Rajouri district is in total deplorable condition due to which thousands of devotees, who pay obeisance in the shrine have to face huge problems while travelling through this stretch.
It has been more than 20 years, Rajouri -Thanamandi road has been lying in dilapidated condition, which is dotted with huge potholes and lead to fatal accidents taking precious human lives due to negligence of previous governments, which had virtually turned its eyes towards this grave problem.
“It is very dangerous to travel on this stretch, which is 30 kms in length. It has takes over two hours to covers this road due to its pathetic condition. Although the shrine is world famous, where devotees from various countries also visit here to pay obeisance yet nothing was to improve the condition of road,” they said. They further said that the same road also connect to the historic Mughal Road, which further connect to Kashmir and Ladakh regions. The road has witnessed fatal accidents in past, which took maximum human lives.
The previous governments never took this issue seriously to repair and blacktop it. Several protests were held in past demanding its maintenance but the government, instead of false assurances nothing did.
DDC Rajouri Nazeer Ahmad Sheikh, when contacted by the Early Times for this comments, he said that he had taken up the matter with GREF and said that he also visited the spot personally with Revenue and other concerned department officials and inspected the road on foot. He further said that there were two Court Cases and some land acquisition cases lying pending will be cleared at the earliest so that road work should be started soon.
