Trump’s silence on Art 370 shocks PDP, NC leadership | | | Early times report
Jammu, Feb 25: Although US President Donald Trump offered to mediate between India and Pakistan to restore peace in the sub-continent, his refusal to speak on Kashmir in general and Article 370 in particular has sent a shock wave among PDP and NC leadership, apart from other separatist groups. Kashmir centric parties like PDP, NC and other groups were hoping that Trump will speak on abrogation of Article 370 so these groups were planning to exploit his statements to corner Centre. Kashmir centric parties were hoping that Kashmir issue would dominate dialogue between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President but this issue was completely sidelined. None of the leader raised this issue which is a clear indication that world has endorsed India’s initiatives on Kashmir. Some reporters tried their best that Trump will speak something on Article 370 but US President preferred to observe silence on this issue, which India is repeatedly announcing on all international platforms as its internal matter. Hours after holding bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President again floated his mediation offer, but he kept the context vague. President Trump said he discussed Pakistan with PM Modi. “I have a good equation with Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan too. They (Pakistan) are working to control cross-border terrorism,” President Trump said. When he was specifically asked about his mediation offer that he had floated after the Modi government decided to abrogate Article 370, President Trump said, “I didn't say anything about that (mediation).” He said Kashmir has been a “thorn in lot of people's sides” for a long time and there are two sides to every story. “Kashmir obviously is a big problem between India and Pakistan. They are going to work out their problem. They have been doing it for a long time,” he said.
