Jammu, Mar 6: With the announcement of former PDP leader and ex-minister Syed Altaf Bukhari to formally launch ‘Apni Party’ political outfit in Srinagar on March 8, some of the Congress leaders on Friday called it a day by quitting the party. They are going to join the new party. Credible sources in the Congress party said that senior leaders Vikram Malhotra, District Jammu Congress Committee president and Manjit Singh, District Samba, Congress Committee president on Friday resigned from the basic membership of the party. “The duo may join the upcoming political outfit ‘Apni Party’ led by the former minister Syed Altaf Bukhari,” sources said and added that the joining will take place at Srinagar on Monday. They further maintained that Congress leaders including Aijaz Khan, Mumtaz Khan, Usmaan Majeed, Shoiab Lone, Hilal Shah are also among those joining the new venture. Bukhari on Thursday said that new political outfit named as ‘Apni Party’ will be launched formally on March 8 at Srinagar. “We will be officially launching the ‘Apni Party’ in Srinagar on March 8,” Mr Bukhari here told some news agencies. He said, “after official launch, we will hold a press conference and after 4 to 5 days, we will be interacting with media in Jammu”. “The party will be floated along with some of our colleagues, who all are prominent,” he said and added that before that on March 7, a core group meeting will be held to hold deliberations on certain matters. As per political sources, the new members of ‘Apni Party’ are of opinion that the parties like National Conference and People’s Democratic Party have shown too many ‘golden dreams’ to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “As its immediate goal, the new political party would strive for the restoration of J&K statehood,” they added. Pertinent to mention here that Bukhari had also praised the Modi led government in the Centre for ensuring no loss of life in the Kashmir Valley after the revocation of Article 370 and 35A in August. |
