Udhampur, Mar 12: The heavy rainfall has exposed the real work culture of Municipal authorities here.
The negilegence of local body could be gauged from the fact that the entire Udhampur town particularly Ward No 21 nearly looked like a vast pool of water as several lanes and roads got submerged due to water logging.
Commuters as well as pedestrians faced several problems while negotiating the water logged streets.
“All the water from Sallian Talab and Kalar area of Udhampur town flows by this ward but no proper drainage system there resulted in water logging on road and streets. Such a situation created largely due to negligence of Municipal authorities. It completely exposes the work culture of Municipality as well as district administration,” the residents of the area maintained.
“Had municipal authorities as well as district administration cleared the blocked drains or have made a proper drainage system then the water would have flowed smoothly and there was no water logging and flood like situation in the town,” Sunita, a housewife rued.
In the midst of all this none of the Municipal Councilors including President were seen making attempts to solve the problem which further fumed the locals.
“Why had we elected these Councilors if they can’t even visit us to inquire our well being in this threatening situation,” a retired govt employee said.
The water logging also affected traffic and several two wheeler riders fell down.
