SRINAGAR, Mar 12: Taking serious note over traffic mess in Srinagar, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir has directed District Development Commissioner Srinagar to conceptualize a plan with regard to the class timings of three prominent schools for the smooth plying of traffic. As per an official document, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir has directed SSP Traffic Srinagar to visit Biscoe, Mallinson, and Convent schools and find out that vans bringing the children should be allowed to enter the school ground for pick up and d rop off children. “Besides, DC Srinagar shall conceptualize a plan with regard to the class timings of these particular schools for the smooth plying of traffic and submit the same to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir for approval,” the document reads.
The document says that Divisional Commissioner Kashmir has rejected the request of Principal Biscoe and Mallinson Schools with regard to explore the possibility of puncturing the wall of the school to ease out the traffic pressure during peak hours. He has ordered that the decisions shall be taken as per the findings of the traffic police. “SSP Traffic city along with Roads and Buildings, SMS and DC Srinagar shall identify the places where the road can be extended/widened and improved,” the document says. There have been complaints that various schools are the reason for the traffic mess in Srinagar. Earlier, the government had proposed shifting of various schools from Srinagar for the decongestion of Lal Chowk. Traders had also suggested that congestion in the business hub Lalchowk could be minimized if few schools are shifted to city outskirts.
