Drug Inspector let medical shop owners to run writ, non entities selling drugs at medical shops | | | Asif Iqbal Naik
Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 12: In a gross violation of rules and regulations, the majority of the medical shops in Kishtwar District are being run by the non entities who are not even trained enough to sell the medicines to customers. Majority of the shop owners selling medicines are not qualified enough in the field of medicine as according to law only medical license holder are entitled to sell the medicines at medical shops but courtesy the incumbent Drug Inspector who let medical shop owners to run their writ by allowing the sale of drugs through non-license holders. As per the details available with “Early Times” Kishtwar town and its adjoining areas has over 150 medical shops beside some shops also had been established by few people in Marwah, Warwan, Dachhan, Padder, Drabshalla, Bhunzwah and other blocks of Kishtwar District were also seem to are violating the set procedure that warranted the physical presence of license holder on the medical shop counter at the time of selling of any medicine to the customers or the patients, but in many shops—in fact in majority of the shops, the helpers or 3rd party are being seen selling the medicines in these shops. It was not only the non licenses are selling the medicines at majority of the medical shops in Kishtwar District, bearing few medical shops—no shopkeeper provide any bill to the customers that will ensure the proper sale of drugs in the market but will also help to check the sale of illicit drugs in the market including ban drugs falling under narcotics and psychiatric act. Absence of proper billing system also put question mark on charging of tax from the customers. It also promote sale of substitute drugs to the poor and uneducated customers particularly to the people belonging to underprivileged category who are mostly uneducated. Even though successive Drug Inspectors and other senior officials of the health department make customary visit to these medicals shops, but these officials always turn blind eye towards these issues including on the issue of installation of CCTV cameras in medical shops as well as sale of sub-standard drugs. Many medical shops even lack proper storage facilities required for storage of medicines while in many cases, the required infrastructure to run a medical shop was far from reality. The sources close to development told the Early Times that the concern Drug Inspector has develop good friend and the relations with some medical shop owners and was deliberately ignoring the lowering image of these shops that could have huge ramifications on the health of common people. “No official bother to visit the medical shops operational in far flung areas of the Kishtwar District—neither the department made the list of genuine license holders to public” said the sources. “The license holder should wear the white apron fixed with the name plate so as to ascertain the identity of genuine license holder” the sources maintained and called for taking cohesive measure to set the house in order added that similar things could be witnessed in many other parts of the Union Territory of J&K—the practice which need to be curbed with iron hands in the interest of the common people. The issue of continuous absence and ignorance on part of the Drug Inspector was also raised with Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Rajinder Singh Tara who assured that he will look into the matter on top priority. |
