Eight years on, Irrigation canal yet to get completed

EARLY TIMES REPORT

UDHAMPUR, Mar 13: Though the government launches several schemes for the benefit of the farmers but on the ground level the farming community doesn’t get the much needed results. One such glaring example of complete failure of a scheme is the delay in construction of artificial irrigation canal (Kul) at Morh Bakkal in Hartyan Panchayat of district Udhampur.
The construction work of the Kul started in year 2012 and to the disappointment of the farmers of the area the work was left halfway. After six months of construction, the Kul got damaged at various spots thereby rendering no benefit to the farmers even after spending crores of rupees.
“Now, eight years have passed but the construction of the Kul is still incomplete. No water flows in the Kul thanks to the carelessness of Irrigation Department.
Though crores of rupees were spent to construct the Kul but it was a mere wastage of state exchequer as the purpose to provide benefit to the farmers did not materialize.” said Gaffoor Mohammad, a local resident.
“Most of the people living in the village are dependent upon agriculture but due to the non-availability of water in the Kul the farmers are worst suffers,” he added.
He said that if the Kul gets started then the farmers could heave a sigh of relief adding that they could produce more which in turn would ensure more earnings for them.
