Emboldened by Abdullah’s release, NC leaders ‘come out of holes’
3/16/2020 11:51:02 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 16: With the government having released former Chief Minister and National Conference patron from prison, the NC leaders who were otherwise silent since August 5, 2019 have suddenly surfaced.
While Dr Abdullah was released on March 13,2020 from his home which was converted into prison, some of the senior leaders of the NC, who otherwise used to be silent and would avoid attending even the party meetings have been coming out to speak in public.
For the last few days, most of such leaders have been posting their pictures with Dr Abdullah and have been reposing their faith in the NC.
Many of such leaders are understood to have called him on phone to express their “loyalty towards the party.”
Sources said many of the leaders are seeking appointment with the NC top leader to personally offer greetings on his release.
Sources said many such leaders got emboldened by his release and think that now it would be “safe to show loyalty towards NC.”
“Most of them would stay silent and not even talk about NC for all these months but finding that political weather is getting favorable, they are back to business,” said a political observer.
Sources said the NC leaders believe that Dr Farooq’s meeting with former spymaster AS Dulat played the “game-changer” that facilitated the release of the NC patron.
“Most of them are now hopeful that no more political leaders will be arrested and that even those who are under detention will be released and this has encouraged the hidden leaders to come out holes,” said a politician on the condition of anonymity.
It is pertinent to mention that Dr Abdullah was detained in the wake of abrogation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019.
His son Omar and other former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti are still under detention along with a dozen odd mainstream politicians.
