New Delhi: The deadline for filing GST returns for March, April, May 2020 and Composition returns has been extended to June 30, 2020 amid the coronavirus outbreak in the country.
In an address via video conference, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that no interest, penalty and late fee will be charged on late GST return filing for companies with less than Rs 5 crore turnover.
For companies with turnover of over Rs 5 crore, no late fee and penalty will be charged on late GST return filing and the interest rate has been reduced to 9 per cent, she added.
In November last year, the government had extended the due dates for filing GST annual returns for 2017-18 to December 31 and for the financial year 2018-19, to March 31 next year.
The announcement is a partg of the financial relief package announced by the government in wake of the coronavirus outbreak hitting the economy as the country has come to a standstill. |
