Covid19: Budgam admin under scanner for ‘mismanagement’ at Srinagar airport
3/27/2020 11:43:20 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Mar 27: Amid reports of some of the passengers, who flew into Kashmir having been allowed to go home freely without requisite medical examination or quarantine, the administration especially that of Budgam has come under the scanner for the alleged dereliction of duties.
Sources said in the last few days, there have been numerous instances when some “influential Kashmiri people”, who flew into the valley, were allowed to move out of the airport without any mandatory clearance.
In a shocking incident, a patient with coronavirus infection who had come from Saudi Arabia was allowed to go home in Srinagar instead of having been sent to hospital.
In another case, a student who had come from Bangladesh was allowed to go home whereas other students from the same group were taken to a government quarantine facility.
In another such case, some of the students who had come from outside India showed fake identify proof and managed to skip getting quarantined.
Officials said under norms it was a responsibility of the district administration of Budgam in particular including some top officials who were supposed to be responsible for ensuring proper screening at the airport as it falls in the domain of that district.
A senior official said it was a matter fact that the concerned at the Srinagar airport have “failed to do their duty in a proper manner.” “This was not the duty of the SSB personnel on security duty at the airport but of the administration, who seem to have failed to do their duties properly. But Budgam administration cannot be blamed alone because a different system has been put in place for it,” the official said on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said though the matter was discussed at a high level meeting chaired by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, no action has still been taken against the “erring officials.”
When contacted a senior official said the matter was being looked into.
