‘Kings’ turn common man | | |
Former chief ministers of erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir State will have to drill a hole in their pockets if they want to avail the government accommodations and other privileges which they enjoyed in the past. The Centre has repealed section 3-C of the State Legislature Members’ Pension Act, 1984 and has brought them at par with the other former legislators. Kashmir centric politicians, who never allowed any Dogra to become a Chief Minister during the past 70-years, seem to be worst hit due to Centre scrapping J&K’s special status and dividing the erstwhile State into two Union Territories. These politicians have enjoyed all the perks and facilities provided by the Centre during all these years. They stayed in posh bungalows free of cost, never paid petrol, telephone, electricity and other bills which a common man has to pay. Many people in J&K were unaware about section 3-C. They didn’t know that former J&K chief ministers enjoy all the facilities without even spending a single penny from their pocket. Words of the people, who used to say that scrapping of Article 370 is a big loss for the politicians are coming true. After J&K’s reorganization one thing is becoming very much clear that since 1947 politicians have just worked for themselves and have not bothered about the needs of the people. The Centre during all these years has pumped thousands of crores into J&K for the development but these funds have not reached the people. The allegations about politicians filling their own coffers are coming true. Now, the times have changed and Centre should shift its focus from politicians to common people, who have faced all the miseries and troubles due to few leaders, who just believed in their own development only. The deletion of section 3-C has left the former chief ministers with a very few options. Either they have to vacate the official accommodations or they have to pay the rent. They will have to pay the bills like a common man and pay for the fuel they use. Till yesterday a common tax payer used to bear their expenses. The Centre’s move has exposed these politicians. It’s a clear message to these pampered leaders that they don’t fall in special category anymore. They have to fall in line and act like a common resident of Jammu and Kashmir, and to begin with they have to learn to pay for the facilities they avail. |
