Justice Rajnesh Oswal sworn in as judge of J&K HC | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, April 2: Justice Rajnesh Oswal was sworn in as a permanent judge of the common High Court for the Union territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh on Thursday. He was administered oath of office by the Chief Justice Gita Mittal in a function organized in the conference room of Jammu wing of the High Court. He is the first Judge of the High Court to take oath under the Indian Constitution. All previous Judges of the High Court had taken oath under the constitution of Jammu and Kashmir, which ceased to have effect since August 5, 2019. On account of guidelines with regard to measures for containment of COVID19 pandemic in the country issued by the Government of India and the Government of Union territories of Jammu & Kashmir and in order to avoid gathering as well as to maintain social distancing, the other Judges of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir joined the oath ceremony through Video Conference. The Oath ceremony was live streamed on internet through webcast also. It is for the first time in the history of Indian Judiciary, that the oath ceremony was attended by other Judges of the High Court through video conferencing wherein Judges joined while sitting from their respective residences at Jammu, Chandigarh and Srinagar and the ceremony was simultaneously live streamed through webcast on the internet. Advocate General, Assistant Solicitor General of India of both the wings of the High Court, President Bar Association, High Court of J&K, Jammu, Secretary Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs UT of J&K also joined the oath ceremony through Video Linkage. Warrant of appointment of Justice Rajnesh Oswal was read by Sanjay Dhar Registrar General High Court of Jammu and Kashmir in English and Hindi. Earlier, in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, the warrant of the appointment of a Judge of the High Court used to be in three languages- English, Urdu and Hindi and owing to the reason that state language was Urdu, the warrant used to be read in English and Urdu version only. With the appointment of Justice Rajnesh Oswal as Judge of the High Court, the strength of J&K High Court is increased from eight to nine. The J&K High Court has sanctioned strength of 17 Judges including 13 Permanent Judges and 4 Additional Judges. It is pertinent to mention that Justice Rajnesh Oswal was appointed as Judge of Common High Court for the Union territories of J&K and Ladakh on 29th of January 2020 and the authorization for administering oath by Chief Justice to Justice Rajnesh Oswal was received on 1st of April 2020. Justice Rajnesh Oswal born on 17/6/73 at Jammu. He done his schooling from DBN and Ranbir High School and graduation from GGM Science College, LLB from Jammu University. He is Gold Medal in LLB Academics. During the practice period he remained Standing Counsels for Crime Branch Jammu, ICICI Bank, United Bank of India Counsel for High Court Legal Services Authority, High Court of J and K, Yes BankReliance Life Insurance, ICICI Pru Life Insurance. With oath of Adv Rajnesh Oswal as Judge of Common High Court for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and Union Territory of Ladakh, the strength raises from eight to Nine. The J&K High Court has sanctioned strength of 17 Judges including 13 Permanent Judges and 4 Additional Judges. However, at present there are only Eight Judges including Chief Justice Gita Mittal. The other Judges of the High Court are Justice Rajesh Bindal, Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey, Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur, Justice Tashi Rabstan, Justice Sanjeev Kumar Shukla, Justice Sanjay Kumar Gupta and Justice Sindhu Sharma. |
