Govt ban order, health advisories violated at Lakhanpur | Local leader organizes banquet for needy, uploads pictures on social media | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 16: The government order banning “publicity stunts” while helping the needy seem to be restricted to papers only as a local leader organized a banquet for needy at Lakhanpur and uploaded the photographs on social media platforms. Moreover, the health advisories of maintaining physical distancing were also violated as organizers as well as chief guest were seen standing not even at an arm’s distance from each other. According to the photographs along with a written statement uploaded on the facebook profile of a local leader from Lakhanpur, a banquet was organized for the needy people in Lakhanpur, which was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner while senior police officials were also present on the occasion. After the inauguration of the banquet the photographs were uploaded on the facebook profile, in which physical distancing advisory was openly violated. The officials as well as organizers were seen standing shoulder to shoulder with each other. Some participants could be seen wearing the masks on their chins rather than on mouth and nose. Moreover, the uploading and circulation of the photographs of the event on the social media profile was in violation of the circular issued by government and endorsed by Nodal officer Simrandeep Singh (IAS). A paragraph of the circular reads, “There shall be no photography of (the distribution of food items or other necessary items to the people in distress) or circulation on the social media about such food items either by the government agency or Non-Government Organizations. However, photographs may be kept for record/audit purpose where required as supporting document or otherwise.” The organizers have also uploaded a long list of names of the seniors as well as juniors of the political outfit. But how many people were benefited from the banquet has not been explained in the uploaded data. “Most of the political outfits as well as politicians have been uploading their photographs/videos on social networking sites with an aim to gain political mileage or some other benefits and most of the people who have been helping the needy are doing it for publicity”, a local said, adding that the government circular banning such circulation was a good initiative but same should be implemented in letter and spirit. |
