Land grabbers encroach upon govt land in Surankote during lockdown | Despite Sec 144, JCB used on land to make path | | RAJESH TANDON Early Times Report
POONCH, May 8: Taking benefit of lockdown due to COVID-19, some land grabbers have allegedly encroached upon government land in Surankote area of district Poonch during night time by using JCB despite the fact that Sec 144 has been imposed in entire district. Sources told Early Times that when entire administration has been striving hard to curb COVID-19 pandemic but some unscrupulous elements have been encroaching upon State land. Locals alleged that last night some people came with JCB was in their area and started making road in the land, when curfew has been announced. “Land grabbers took this benefit as there was no demarcation of land and with the help of JCB, they tried to make demarcation and path to enter into it,” they alleged. When DFO Poonch was contacted, he asked to contact the concerned Range Officer, who admitted when approached that during imposition of Sec 144 nobody can carry out any activity and said that he would verify the status of land to know that whether land belong to Forest Department or State land. Meanwhile, ET contacted DySP Surankote, who said that he would enquire the matter and appropriate action will be taken. SHO Surankote Anil Kumar also assured that action will be initiated on violation of Sec 144.
