SRINAGAR, May 11: The death toll due to Corona Virus in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir reached 10 today as a man admitted at the Chest Diseases Hospital here passed away. This is the fourth death due to Corona Virus in the Srinagar district. Reports said that the deceased a resident of Kralpora-Hawal was suffering from pancreatic cancer. Officials said that since the person was having co-morbidities the same became the reason for his death. The son of the deceased had passed away few days back after it got confirmed that he is a COVID-19 patient. In the meantime, as 17 more persons tested positive for Corona Virus today the number of people affected by COVID-19 in Jammu & Kashmir is 879. While 12 cases were reported from Kashmir five such cases came up from Jammu division. The Jammu division has been witnessing a surge in COVID-19 cases over the past few days. Reports said that the fresh cases were reported from Kulgam, Kathua, Jammu and Baramulla districts of the union territory. While Kulgam reported 11 cases, Kathua reported three cases followed by Jammu two cases and Baramulla one case. There are 442 active cases of Corona Virus in Jammu & Kashmir as on date. The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that 18 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), six from Jammu division and 12 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 879. Also one COVID-19 positive patient died today at C.D. Hospital, Srinagar. The bulletin included a case of Jammu that got reported on Sunday in the late evening. Out of 879 positive cases, 442 are active positive, 427 have recovered and 10 have died. Moreover, 44 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals of Kashmir division. One COVID-19 patient died today at CD hospital, Srinagar. The bulletin said that out of 51,334 test results available, 50,455 samples have tested as negative till today. Furthermore, till date 95,419 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 22,708 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 190 in hospital quarantine, 442 in hospital isolation and 10,188 under home surveillance. Besides, 61,881 persons have completed their surveillance period. The bulletin said that Srinagar has 136 positive cases with 56 active positive, 76 recovered, four deaths; Bandipora has 134 positive cases with 26 active positive, 107 recovered, one death; Anantnag district has 123 positive cases with 110 active positive, 12 recovered, one death and Baramulla has 109 positive cases with 61 active positive, 45 recovered, three deaths. “Shopian has 103 positive cases with 52 active positive, 51 recovered; Kupwara has 73 positive cases with 30 active positive, 43 recovered; Budgam has 46 positive cases with 32 active positive and 14 recovered cases; Ganderbal has 23 positive cases with nine active cases and 14 recoveries; Kulgam has 42 positive cases with 36 active positive and six recoveries and Pulwama reported 13 positive cases with nine active positive, four recovered,” said the bulletin. The bulletin said that Jammu has 35 positive cases with nine active positive cases and 26 recoveries; Udhampur has 22 positive cases with two active positive case, 19 recovered and one death; Samba has seven positive cases with three active positive and four recoveries; Rajouri has four positive cases and all have recovered; Kathua has six positive cases with five active positive and one recovered; Kishtwar had only one positive case who has recovered while as Ramban and Reasi have one active positive case each. The advisory through the bulletin has cautioned the public that drinking methanol, ethanol or bleach does not prevent or cure COVID-19 and can be extremely dangerous. Methanol, ethanol, and bleach are poisons and drinking them can lead to disability and death. Methanol, ethanol, and bleach are sometimes used in cleaning products to kill the virus on surfaces–however you should never drink them. To protect yourself against COVID-19, disinfect objects and surfaces, especially the ones you touch regularly. You can use diluted bleach or other disinfectants for that. Make sure you clean your hands frequently and thoroughly and avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose. As per the bulletin, the people have been informed that Stigma around COVID-19 can discourage people to take necessary steps to fight the virus. |
