Dr Majeed a Messiah, Riyaz Naikoo a killer | Tale of two men from south Kashmir | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 11: A Kashmiri doctor at AIIMS in New Delhi won many hearts after he removed his protective gear to save a life of COVID-19 patient, while a recently killed self-styled commander of terror outfit Hizbul-Mujahideen broke many hearts by killing innocents at one or other pretext. Dr Zahid Abdul Majeed, resident of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district was called for shifting a COVID-19 intubated patient to the ICU in the AIIMS Trauma Centre in New Delhi. The centre has been converted as a dedicated COVID-19 hospital. When Dr Majeed reached the ambulance, he had difficulty in ventilating the patient and suspected “accidental extubation.” “I immediately decided to re-intubate. Owing to poor visibility through the PPE inside the ambulance, I decided to remove the goggles and face shield, and then re-intubated the patient as any delay would have led to imminent death of the patient,” Dr Majeed said. The doctor putting his life at stake to save the life of a patient has earned him appreciation from everywhere. Everyone has praised his dedication towards the duty. Incidentally, Dr Majeed and the slain Hizbul commander, Riyaz Naikoo, hail from south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. “One proved to be a Messiah and another a killer. Naikoo during his tenure as Hizbul commander killed many innocents just on the basis of suspicion that they were informers of the security forces. He looted orchard owners and made them pay tax on their yield,” said an analyst. He said, “On the other hand we have a man (Dr Majeed) from the same district in Kashmir who without caring for himself broke the protocol to save a precious human life.” An observer said, “Riyaz Naikoo was one of the most dreaded commanders of Hizbul Mujahideen. He was instrumental in creating fear psychosis among the people. It was on his instructions that videos of people who were killed by the Hizbul terrorists were uploaded on social media.” He said, “Naikoo issued threats to media men and the members of civil society on many occasions. He got the family members of many policemen abducted. He asked the terrorists to kill unarmed policemen and political workers. Naikoo was nothing more than a killing machine.” “Riyaz Naikoo was a symbol of hate, while Dr Majeed has emerged as the symbol of humanity and brotherhood. Entire nation has praised the selfless service of the doctor and his presence of mind during the crisis time,” the observer said, adding, “When Naikoo was killed by the security forces, everyone said that it’s a good riddance.” |
