| States should allow flights to save airlines from going bankrupt, Omar | | |  Early Times REport
Srinagar, May 20: Urging states to withdraw their objection and allow resumption of flights, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said why should airlines go bankrupt when railways has announced to start 200 non-AC trains from June 1.
“Why should airlines go bankrupt laying off employees while Indian Railways mops up all the passenger traffic”, the vice-president of National Conference (NC) said.
Taking to micro-blogging site twitter, Mr Abdullah said, ‘With 200 non-AC trains announced to start from June 1, hopefully the states will withdraw their objection to resumption of flights. Why should airlines go bankrupt laying off employees while Indian Railways mops up all the passenger traffic?”.
He was responding to a tweet of India’s Union Minister for Housing & Urban Affairs (I/C); Civil Aviation (I/C); & MoS Commerce & Industry which reads “ It is not upto @MoCA_GoI or centre alone to decide on resuming domestic flights.
In the spirit of cooperative federalism, the states where these flights will take off and land should be ready to allow civil aviation operations.
The Government of India (GoI) has suspended all domestic and international flights in March 2020 due to Covid-19.
However, about hundred flights were operated to bring back Indian citizens, including students, stuck in different countries. |
