SRINAGAR, May 20: The death toll due to the Corona Virus in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir reached 18 today as a young lady of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district passed away at the Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura.
At the same time 73 fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported from both the Kashmir and Jammu divisions of the union territory. While 37 cases were reported from Kashmir 36 such cases came to the fore from Jammu division. With today’s fresh cases the number of positive cases in Jammu & Kashmir reached 1390.
Reports said that Jammu & Kashmir witnessed 18th COVID-19 death after a 40-year-old positive patient from Bijbehara of Anantnag district died at SKIMS Soura on Tuesday in the night. So far 16 COVID-19 deaths have taken place in Kashmir and two from Jammu region. Srinagar recorded five deaths, Anantnag and Baramulla four each, Bandipora, Kulgam, Budgam, Jammu and Udhampur recoding one death each.
Reports said that Jammu district recorded 20 fresh cases followed by Kupwara district with 17 cases, Baramulla eight cases each, Kulgam, Anantnag and Udhampur five cases each, Ramban and Kishtwar three cases each, Samba two cases, Bandipora, Pulwama, Kathua, Reasi and Poonch districts one case each.
The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that 73 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), 36 from Jammu division and 37 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 1390. Also one COVID-19 patient died at SKIMS, Soura-Srinagar.
Out of 1390 positive cases, 694 are active positive, 678 have recovered and 18 have died; 02 in Jammu division and 16 in Kashmir division. Moreover, 31 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, four from Jammu division and 27 from Kashmir division. The bulletin said that out of 1, 01,950 test results available, 1, 00,560 samples have tested as negative till May 20, 2020.
Additionally, till date 1, 22,964 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 33,113 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 86 in hospital quarantine, 694 in hospital isolation and 19,892 under home surveillance. Besides, 69,161 persons have completed their surveillance period.
The bulletin said that Anantnag district has 252 positive cases, with 159 active positive, 89 recovered, four deaths; Kulgam has 171 positive cases, with 160 active positive, 10 recoveries; Srinagar has 169 positive cases with 67 active positive, 97 recovered, five deaths; Bandipora has 138 positive cases with nine active positive, 128 recovered, one death; Baramulla has 129 positive cases with 34 active positive, 91 recovered, four deaths.
“Shopian has 109 positive cases with 11 active positive, 98 recovered; Kupwara has 118 positive cases with 70 active positive, 48 recovered; Budgam has 58 positive cases, with 27 active positive, 30 recovered and one death; Ganderbal has 25 positive cases with 10 active cases and 15 recoveries; Pulwama reported 19 positive cases with 13 active positive, six recovered,” said the bulletin.
The bulletin said that Jammu has 67 positive cases with 35 active positive cases and 31 recoveries and one death; Kathua has 37 positive cases with 36 active positive and one recovered; Udhampur has 33 positive cases with 11 active positive cases, 21 recovered and one death; Samba has 16 positive cases with 10 active positive, six recoveries.
“Rajouri has eight positive cases with four active positive cases, four recovered; Kishtwar has five positive cases with four active positive cases and one recovered; Ramban has 27 positive cases with 26 active positive and one recovered; Reasi has four positive cases with three active positive and one recovered, Poonch has four active positive cases and Doda has one active positive case,” reads the bulletin.
The advisory has urged upon the people to maintain physical distance of at least 2 metres from others and frequently clean their hands with an alcohol based hand sanitizer or soap and water besides following good respiratory etiquettes & hygiene which is the best way to protect themselves from COVID-19. The bulletin again explained that early detection of COVID-19 can prevent the spread of disease so we need to be responsible for the well-being of ourselves and everyone around us.
