Early Times Report

JAMMU, June 8: Taking strong note of the numerous complaints with regard to non-issuance of BPL ration cards to genuine beneficiaries, President Municipal Council Kishtwar Raiz Ahmed Zarger today sought re-verification of BPL Ration Cards issued to the people within the limits of Kishtwar town.
He called upon Assistant Director Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department to constitute a team for the same. As per the details available with Early Times, President MC Kishtwar Raiz Ahmed Zarger along with Counsellors of Kishtwar Municipality held a detailed meeting with AD Food in his office chamber expressing resentment over dropping of the names of poor and deserving persons from the BPL list as a result of which these poor people are suffering especially during ongoing testing times due to COVID-19 pandemic.
President MC Kishtwar further informed that the complaints are not confined to within Municipality limits but from other parts as well which were also brought into the notice of the concerned.
President MC Kishtwar Raiz Ahmed Zarger also wrote a letter to AD FCS&CA Kishtwar vide No. MC/K/2020/164-65 Dated 8-6-2020 requesting him for verification of BPL ration cards in Kishtwar Municipality beside urging the department to add the deserving persons in BPL list.
“I wonder how wealthy people manage to collect BPL ration from Government stores while poor people are kept in lurch,” said Farooq Ahmed Tapal, resident of Ward No 12 MC Kishtwar.
Tapal said that the BPL list prepared by Food Department is a cruel joke with poor people who are running from piller to post for enrolling themselves as BPL-but they (poor) were denied the same while influential call the shots.
He along with many others demanded immediate re-verifications of all the BPL ration cards issued in entire Kishtwar District.
Several people from various areas of Kishtwar District told the Early Times that there is mass scale bungling in issuance of BPL ration cards in the District.
Some people alleged that the BPL ration cards have been issued on party basis where people having political backing managed to get themselves registered under BPL quota while deserving persons had been left on the pretext that government has fixed certain percentage for Kishtwar District under BPL quota which cannot beexceeded.
AD Food Kishtwar Ghulam Rasool Lone assured the President MC and counsellors that he will look into the matter and assured for re-verification of the ration cards issued under BPL category.
