Is GOI set to initiate political process in JK? | Setting incarcerated politicians free | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 8: Speculations are rife that the government of India may initiate a political process in Jammu and Kashmir with key political parties of the erstwhile state to have a major say in the entire scenario. In a recent past, a statement coming from the PDP has hinted that the party wants to become part of the political process. “We have been asking all along for unconditional release of the political leadership across parties from illegal detention. While our president and former CM Mehbooba Mufti has completed 10months in this illegal detention, leaders from other parties like Ali Mohd Sagar also continue to be under arrest. Even those released from jails have been put in detention in their homes. This is undemocratic, illegal and unethical,” party said in a statement. Meanwhile, there are reports that the political parties are sending feelers of being ready to be part of the process to initiate political framework in Jammu and Kashmir. Prior to this, the Jammu and Kashmir government on June 3 revoked the Public Safety Act (PSA) of IAS topper turned politician Shah Faesal, and two PDP leaders—Sartaj Madani and Peer Mansoor, who serving detention since August 5 last year. Pertinently, there were reports making rounds that the J&K administration was mulling to revoke the PSA detention orders of many politicians detained post August 5 last year. There are also reports coming to the fore that that government would soon take a decision on detention of NC general secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, PDP ideologue Naeem Akther and NC’s Hilal Akbar Lone who are also in detention under PSA. “The government is expected to take a decision on them soon,” they said, adding that none of them will remain lodged at their present places of detention. While Sagar and Akther are detained in M5 government accommodation on Gupkar road, Hilal, who is son of NC MP Akbar Lone, is now lone detainee at MLA hostel. News agencies earlier quoting sources have stated that, the government is also likely to end house detention of more than 20 leaders of National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party and Peoples Conference. Peoples Conference chief Sajad Gani Lone is in house detention after his release from MLA hostel on February 5. Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti also remains in detention under the Public Safety Act at her Fairview residence. |
