SRINAGAR, June 17: The death toll due to the Corona Virus in Jammu & Kashmir reached 64 as one more COVID-19 patient died today. Meanwhile, 108 fresh cases of the virus were reported from the union territory today.
Reports said that a 65 years old man from Shopian died at the SKIMS, Soura here this morning. As on date 57 COVID-19 patients have died in Kashmir while as the casualties from Jammu are seven. In the meantime, with the fresh cases the total number of positive cases in Jammu & Kashmir is 5,406.
Shopian district reported 27 fresh cases of Corona Virus followed by Srinagar and Udhampur 17 cases each, Kupwara nine cases, Kulgam and Baramulla seven cases each, Budgam five cases, Anantnag four cases, Rajouri and Reasi three cases each, Bandipora, Pulwama and Ramban two cases each and Ganderbal, Kathua and Samba one case each. The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that 108 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), 27 from Jammu division and 81 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 5,406. Also, one COVID-19 death has been reported from Kashmir division.
Moreover, 133 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, 55 from Jammu Division and 78 from Kashmir Division. Out of 5,406 positive cases, 2,428 are active positive, 2,914 have recovered and 64 have died; seven in Jammu division and 57 in Kashmir division. The bulletin said that out of 2, 82,268 test results available, 2, 76,862 samples have been tested as negative till date.
Additionally, till date 2, 43,887 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 40,152 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 28 in hospital quarantine, 2,428 in hospital isolation and 47,960 under home surveillance. Besides, 1, 53255 persons have completed their surveillance period.
The bulletin said that Kulgam has 650 positive cases, 211 active positive, 431 recoveries, eight deaths; Shopian has 585 positive cases, 256 active positive, 322 recovered, seven deaths; Anantnag district has 583 positive cases, 168 active positive, 410 recovered, five deaths; Srinagar has 566 positive cases, 337 active positive, 215 recovered, 14 deaths; Baramulla has 532 positive cases, 298 active positive, 223 recovered, 11 deaths.
“Kupwara has 419 positive cases, 106 active positive, 308 recovered, five deaths; Budgam has 264 positive cases, 144 active positive, 116 recovered, four deaths; Pulwama has 261 positive cases, 189 active positive, 70 recovered, two deaths; Bandipora has 248 positive cases, 44 active positive, 203 recovered, one death and Ganderbal has 64 positive cases, nine active positive, 55 recoveries,” reads the bulletin.
The bulletin said that Jammu has 279 positive cases, 116 active positive, 159 recoveries, four deaths; Ramban has 201 positive cases, 117 active positive, 84 recoveries; Udhampur has 185 positive cases, 103 active positive, 81 recovered, one death; Kathua has 163 positive cases, 82 active positive, 81 recovered; Samba has 113 positive cases, 71 active positive, 42 recoveries.
“Poonch has 105 positive cases, 56 active positive, 49 recoveries; Rajouri has 72 positive cases, 57 active positive, 14 recovered, one death; Doda has 63 positive cases, 32 active positive, 30 recoveries, one death; Reasi has 30 positive cases, 17 active positive, 13 recovered and Kishtwar has 23 positive cases with 15 active positive, eight recovered,” reads the bulletin. Out of 5,406 positive cases in J&K, 1851 have been reported as travelers.
The bulletin has informed the people that, the best way to protect themselves from COVID-19 is by maintaining physical distance of at least 2 metres from others, frequently cleaning hands with an alcohol based hand sanitizer or washing them with soap and water and following good respiratory etiquette and hygiene. As a measure for social distancing in public places and workplaces wearing a face cover is compulsory.
