Unemployed Dental surgeons appeal govt to advertise posts | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 19: Unemployed Dental Surgeons, who are at the verge of overage have appealed to government to advertise some posts of dental surgeons. Dental surgery graduates have been loafing with wild thoughts of fear and stress, being broke and penurious over their poor future job prospects. The would be doctors employment woes have not been addressed since 2008 when government last officially advertised posts for inducement of dental surgeons in Health Department. Since then thousands of dental surgeons are hopeless and jobless. The reason for this unemployment clearly follows a mismatch between supply and demand in health sector. According to World Health Organization (WHO), the ideal dentist-population ratio is 1:7500. The dental graduates are in a state of crisis due to lack of support from the Government and in this pandemic, the situation is more worrisome. If this situation continues it will lead to a negative effect on the integrity of the dental profession, and highly trained dental manpower of the country will go in vain. Jobless dental surgeons handed over a petition to the state government in 2014 after long hunger strike for 3 months under the aegis of the dental surgeon’s association-JK. “We have seen and submitted ourselves to the authorities time and time but nothing has been done till date for the welfare of well qualified BDS and MDS graduates”, they said. Two years back with the help of then Honourable Governor Satyapal Malik and Advisor Vijay kumar, we finally able to put our demands rightly and officers were told to work on creating new posts for dental surgeons in state. The file bearing number HD/PLAN/68-2018 is with Finance department and till date even after 2 long years there is not even one new creation of post. Our J&K Dental Council has even written to Financial, commissioner, Health for absorption of dental surgeons in COVID-19 pandemic for screening and other activities related. As per J&K Dental Council, Union Territory of J&k has 4800 registered dental surgeons and out of which 3500 are unemployed. When states like Punjab and Bangalore can advertise vacancies to use the services of orall healthcare professionals, our UT can also take a step forward on same basis.
