Pakistani drone shot down by BSF in Kathua; weapons, grenades recovered | | | Kathua: A Pakistani drone carrying arms and explosives was shot down by the Border Security Force along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Saturday.
The drone loaded with a sophisticated rifle and some grenades was shot down at about 5:10 am when the BSP patrol spotted it hovering near Rathua village of Kathua, news agency ANI reported.
This is for the first time when the BSF shot down a drone carrying arms and explosives in Jammu regionThe 8x8 drone (from blade to blade) was seen hovering in the skies by a BSF party on patrol duty at Rathua village in the vicinity of Border Out Post (BOP) Pansar, PTI reported, quoting officials. The BSF personnel fired nine rounds at the drone and shot it down 250 metres inside the Indian territory.
A highly sophisticated rifle, two magazines, 60 rounds and seven grenades have been recovered from the drone meant to be delivered to Pakistani agents, as per preliminary information.
The drone was being controlled by the Pakistani rangers guarding the forward posts opposite BOP Pansar.
The development comes days after the Galwan Valley intrusion where 20 Indian Army personnel, including commanding officer of Bihar Regiment, Colonel Santosh Babu lost their lives in a violent face-off with Chinese troops.
Earlier in January, the BSF shot down a Pakistani drone along the International Border in Jammu. The drone was in a forward post in the Arnia belt. |
