Srinagar, July 22: Curfew like restrictions will be back in all except one Kashmir district as the government again tries to put a lockdown in a bid to contain the COVID-19 surge. In the last 15 days, COVID-19 cases have multiplied at a rapid rate and the number of symptomatic people has also increased alarmingly thus forcing the government to initiate another strict lockdown to try and take control of the worsening situation. “Complete lockdown in all Red districts (excluding Bandipora) of Kmr (Kashmir) Div (Division) from today evening till 6 am on 27-7-2020,” the Jammu and Kashmir administration’s Department of Information and Public Relations said in a statement. However, the movement of essential services, goods carriers, oils tankers will continue unhindered. Also agriculture, horticulture and construction activities will also be allowed. UT of Jammu and Kashmir has 6,540 active cases out of which 5,200 are in Kashmir, and Srinagar continues to the be the hotbed of COVID-19 with an almost daily spike in numbers. On Tuesday, the yearly Amarnath Yatra was cancelled by the government due to increased COVID-19 spread and threat. However, there are concerns over the unchecked inflow of labourers into the valley that has gone up by over a period of time. Health experts have demanded COVID tests of all labourers before entry as otherwise, they will be an added COVID-19 threat which the place can’t afford.
