Kathua July 23: Kathua Police on Thursday foiled a major narcotic smuggling bid at Lakhanpur, the gateway of Jammu and Kashmir, and arrested two persons along with 28,800 bottles of contraband substance. “On the basis of a tip off, Lakhanpur police laid a checking point at Lakhnpur and intercepted a truck which was subjected to physical search. During checking, a total of 240 cardboard cartoons, containing 120 bottles of ‘Wincirex’ cough syrup each making total 28,800 bottles, and 1,91,520 of ‘Spasmo-Proxyvon-Plus’ capsules stealthily hidden under the soap cartoons were found laden in the truck. The narcotics were being smuggled from Ludhiana to Bijbehara in Srinagar,” Shailendra Mishra, SSP Kathua told reporters. The SSP said the truck driver Balbir Singh alias Beeri of Hedon Bet in tehsil Samrala of district Ludhiana along with his associate Sham Lal of Hedon Bet have been arrested for smuggling narcotics to Kashmir Valley. The vehicle has also been seized. An FIR was registered at Police Station Lakhanpur against the arrested persons and the investigation was under process The recovery was made by a police team at New Toll Plaza Lakhanpur led by Inspector Sanjeev Chib, SHO Police Station Lakhanpur under the supervision of Dysp K.D. Bhagat.
