103 fresh, 1265 active positive cases, 83 deaths so far in North Kashmir | | | S TAHIR-UL HAQ Early Times Report
BARAMULLA, July 23: Out of 718 positive cases reported today in the Union Territory of J&K, as many as 103 fresh positive cases have been detected in North Kashmir alone while there are 1265 active positive cases in the region. Cumulative cases reached over 3271, whereas 7 have recovered and 83 deaths have occurred so far in North Kashmir as on date. According to the district wise positive cases that are available as on July 22, 2020 (Monday), in Baramulla district, 29 fresh positive cases were reported today, there has been an increase in the cumulative cases that have gone up to 1738, and active positive cases that stand at 730, and cumulative recovered cases are 948 as on date, while as 60 deaths, next highest after Srinagar district that have occurred so far in this district. In Kupwara district, 32 fresh positive cases were reported today, while there is an increase in cumulative cases that have gone up to 1008 cases, active positive cases stand at 390, cumulative recovered are 602 including 4 recoveries as on date and 16 deaths have occurred so far. In Bandipora district, 42 fresh positive cases reported today, whereas 525 are cumulative cases, 145 are active positive, 373 are cumulative recovered including 3 recoveries as on date and 7 deaths have occurred so far. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Dr G N Itoo today said that a proper mechanism is in place to screen and quarantine each and every person including migrants, travellers entering the valley for COVID-19 virus. The DC said that public health shall not be compromised at any cost adding that administration will strictly implement all the related SOPs and guidelines to mitigate the risk of transmission of virus. He said that any kind of laxity won’t be tolerated in the larger public interest and strict action shall be taken against those violating advisories that include using face masks and maintaining social distancing. The DC further informed that so far about 27000 tests have been conducted in the district among which 1710 positive cases have been reported and about 948 patients have recovered from the virus, thereby leaving only 705 active cases besides 57 deaths. Dr Itoo further informed that about 93 shops have so far been sealed for violating the prescribed guidelines and an amount of Rs 60,000 was realized as fine from them. Meanwhile, DC said that special arrangements have been put in place in view of the forthcoming festival of Eid-ul-Adha wherein all essential commodities shall be facilitated in a convenient manner. He also said that sufficient stock of cattle and poultry birds have been arranged to avoid any inconvenience to people. The DC appealed to people to follow SOPs and guidelines especially using face masks adding that about 6 lakh masks were distributed by the administration so far. He also urged upon the vulnerable persons including senior citizens, pregnant women and others suffering from comorbidities, to desist from coming out of their homes unnecessarily to safeguard themselves from the virus.
