RTO Jammu takes RTI Act casually | Fails to ensure timely and appropriate reply | | RAJESH TANDON
EARLY TIMES REPORT
POONCH, July 23: The office of Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Jammu is virtually taking the RTI Act lightly which can be gauged from the fact that information seekers are not being given appropriate and timely reply. As per information, an RTI seeker had submitted a RTI application with RTO Jammu in the month of February requesting information about number of MVD Inspectors posted in various offices of ARTO in Jammu region, number of permits issued and their minute reports, number of Driving Licenses issued to people of other states etc. but interestingly RTO Jammu instead of giving reply from its end, forwarded the RTI to ARTOs for the information due to which reply could not be received. RTI activist said that he received a communication from Civil Secretariat in the month of May with an irrelevant reply in which it was informed that no ARTO presently posted in Jammu Division has been appointed by the Transport Department. In another reply which was received from RTO Jammu said that the RTI application is transferred to all ARTOs of Jammu province under section 6 (3) of J&K RTI Act 2009 for providing the relevant information as per the record directly to the applicant under an information to this office, he said. Sources told Early Times that RTO Jammu adopted delaying tactics in order to hide the information. It has come to know that several SRTC employees have been adjusted as inspectors in RTO Jammu and despite their transfer orders, they are not willing to relieve. |
