Chhari-Sthapana associated with Amarnath yatra performed in Srinagar
7/23/2020 11:44:16 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, July 23: Amidst chanting of Vedic hymn the “ Chhari-Sthapana”, associated with annual pilgrimage to holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, was performed on Thursday at Shri Amareshwar Temple Akhara building, Budshah Chowk near here. Though the annual yatra has been cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic, all age old rituals associated with the pilgrimage will be performed as per traditions, custodian of the Chhari Mubarak , holy silver Mace of Lord Shiva Mahant Deependra Giri said. A group of sadhus led by Mahant Giri performed the Puja during the Chhari Sthapana-- one depicting Lord Shiva and another Goddess Parvati—at Amareshwar temple. Puja Puja lasted for more than two and half hours, Mahant Giri said. Chhari-Mubarak will be kept in the Temple for ‘Darshan’ till it leaves for main course of pilgrimage. He said traditional ‘Chhari-Pujan’ shall be performed on July 25 on the occasion of ‘Nag-Panchami’ (Shravan Shukla Paksha Panchami) at Dashnami Akhara. As per age old tradition Chhari Mubarak was taken to ancient Sharika Bhawani temple in the down town Srinagar to pay obeisance to the Goddess on the occasion of Shravan Shukla Paksha Pratipada on July 21.
On July 20 similar traditional pujan, associated with the yatra, was held at Shakarcharya temple in Srinagar.
The holy Mace will be taken to cave shrine in the morning of August 3 on the occasion Rakshabandan for final puja. Later Chhari will leave the cave shrine immediately after sunset.
Last year, the yatra was suspended for security reasons from August 5, when centre scrapped Article 370 and divided the state into two Union Territories (UTs).
This year the yatra, which was to start from June 21 was cancelled due to COVID 19.
However, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Lt Governor G C Murmu and top Army, police and civil officers paid obeisance at the cave shrine.
