Jammu, July 23: School of Biotechnology, University of Jammu in association with Innovation - Technology Transfer Office, FITT, IIT Delhi organized a webinar on “Significance of IP and Technology transfer: Unlocking the potential of Innovation ecosystem” on 23rd July, 2020. The webinar aimed at motivating students/scholars and faculty for developing innovative ideas for finding solutions to various problems. Innovations (New/Novel ideas), Entrepreneurship development, Business incubation, Technology transfer, Intellectual Property, were some of the key words of the webinar. There were three resource persons from ITTO, IIT Delhi who spoke on various aspects. Dr. Tripta Dixit, discussed the significance of technology transfer and its process, and elaborated the tools/ techniques and challenges faced in the technology transfer process. She emphasized the need for industry and academics to work hand in hand to provide solutions to the problems. Ms. Reema Sahni discussed the importance of Intellectual Property rights (IPR) and Patents. She thoroughly discussed the patentability criteria and clauses of the non patentable subject matter that fall in various sections of Indian patent act. Dr. Ashutosh Pastor discussed the opportunities for startups and innovators to secure support and funding. A successful Startup earmarks the genuine problems in the society, and brainstorm, build a team, secure funding, and work exhaustively to get the solutions. Dr Pastor informed about various Government schemes which provide Financial Aid/Grants to the selected Startup ideas in the area of Biotechnology, Medicine or Agriculture. He narrated the success stories of several Startup companies. Several scholars and faculty members interacted with speakers for various queries. Earlier, Prof. B.K. Bajaj, Director, School of Biotechnology, presented introductory remarks, and welcomed the resource persons and audience, and thanked the speakers. The webinar was attended by the students, Research Scholars, and Faculty members of different Departments of University of Jammu, including Prof. Seema Langer (H.O.D Zoology), Prof. Jyoti Vakhlu, Prof. Vennu Kaul, Prof. Sanjana Kaul, Dr. Anil Gupta (School of Hospitality & Tourism Management), Dr. Madhulika Bhagat, Dr. Nisha Kapoor, Dr. Aarti Sharma, Dr. Skarma Nonzom, and others.
