Race to win the battle against COVID -19
7/25/2020 11:17:45 PM

RK Sinha

A silver lining of hope is now visible to the world for combatting the global pandemic COVID-19 which has almost halted the world. Internationally acclaimed Oxford University of Britain and also scientists of Russia, claimed almost simultaneously to have developed vaccine against the COVID-19. This claim has let the world breathe a sigh of relief. It seems like, the crisis which entire world is witnessing is about to end. Today, people of every age group, be it children, adults and elderly are fearful of this corona virus. The vaccine developed by Oxford University, has also been clinically tasted safe for humans , as claimed by the University. It is indeed an important relieving news. Essentially, the trial of this vaccine, in humans has caused to increase substantially the immune response against the virus. The wretched virus poses a direct threat and attack those with weak immune system. Many measures have been suggested to increase the immunity, immediately after the advent of this virus. Like,to drink warm water always and taking turmeric with milk. Turmeric has curcumin as it’s most active compound which have many scientifically-proven health benefits. It is a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Benefits of these natural products are also mentioned in our age old tradition and Ayurveda. But immunity cannot be developed in a single day. This natural power of body can be increased gradually. This milestone achievement of Oxford University has reminded me of the period after world War- II , when the world witnessed bigger crisis. The USA always stood at forefront to combat those. It always presented itself as a firm leader. But this time, of Covid crisis US is standing nowhere in this race.
By the way, these discussions are less relevant in the present context. The need of the hour is that we should prioritise with full efficiency, to defeat and uproot this virus completely. However, more than one thousand people were included in the vaccine trial by Oxford University. It was observed that people administered with these vaccines, developed an increase immunity in the fighting capacity against this virus.
Russia has also asserted to develop the vaccine. News related to vaccine development of Oxford University and Russia has came almost at the same time. Russia also declared that after tasting success at every phase of vaccine trial, their vaccine is ready to administer. Russia has also stated that vaccine developed with the collaboration of Russian Defence Ministry, has successfully completed the second phase of trial. Now the first domestic injection is ready to use. Russia, by the end of 2020,can manufacture 3 crore dosage for domestic use and 17 crore for other countries, it is claimed.Russia has completed the second phase. Persons administered with this vaccine has shown positive response and are developing immune response against this virus. But it is not still clear, upto when Russia will initiate the third stage of vaccine trial and mass production of the same. Indeed the scientists population of Oxford University and Russia also encompasses the ones not native to their own countries. The countries from which they belong to, should also be given credit for producing such scientists who are doing a great work to save mankind/humanity. Now scientists from around the world, collaborate to work in eminent laboratories. This might consists of Indians scientists also.
British government has already ordered 10 crore dosage of the drugs from the Oxfords. It proves the faith of British government on Oxford University and its drug that will defeat the corona virus.
Oxford University is stating that “this vaccine is fully effective against the virus. Initial results of the vaccine is encouraging and inspiring. An another pleasent news came that All India Institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS) also ventured, in order to contain this virus, has started the trial of the capable injections. A group of 100 volunteers will be administered with this drug during phase 1 of this trial. First indigenously developed vaccine has been named COVACCINE. Dr. Sanjay Rai is assigned the responsibility for the trial. COVACCINE has been developed by Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech in collaboration with Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and National Institute of Virology(NIV). The vaccine is codenamed” BBV152”.AIIMS, Delhi is among the 12 other places where the trial of the drug is going on. The sample size of this facility is biggest in the country, so the results will lead the research direction. This vaccine is already going through trial phase in AIIMS, Patna and Rohtak. Goa has also initiated the procedure.
The most important fact is that Oxford University has already prepared itself to manufacture vaccine against Corona. It is also expected that the vaccine manufactured by Oxford University will be available in India around November. This is likely to be priced nearly one thousand rupees in India. This cannot be said expensive, but still it is being expected that government will subsidise the drug, so that it can reach up to the last person of the society. Concluding the discussion, it is now evident that the time has come to gain triumph over this microscopic devil. Mankind has gained access to its vaccine. The entire world will be highly obliged towards the scientists who struggled day and night to develop the life saving drug. Amidst, scientists of various countries including India are actively engaged in different laboratories to develop vaccine against this virus. It is probable that, similar positive news from across the world will be heard in coming future.
Actually, scientists do not belong to a country or a society. They belong to the entire world community. They can be considered global citizens, as their achievements are beneficial to the entire world. We should also ponder over the interests of these scientists. Prior to this pandemic, it was heard that various missiles and bombs are capable of destroying the world. Now we should stop talking about the destruction. Now the scientists across the globe have committed to establish a “NEW WORLD”.
