Residents of Sohanjana allege discrimination in reservation rights | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 28: The residents of villages of Sohanjana for not including their areas under International Border Reservation Rights. People also expressed resentment against the Government for neglecting their villages despite the fact that these villages fall within 0-6 km of the criteria set up by the Government for reservation benefits due to which youth are not able to get the benefit of reservation in Government jobs and army recruitment. We appeal to the Lt Governor Administration and to the Social Welfare Department , in particular, for immediately including our left out villages which fall in aforesaid category. It is pertinent to mention here that two villages of Patwar halqua Sohanjana namely Sohanjana 4.5 Kms and Alora 5.75 Kms having aerial distance from Border as per Google map but have not been included in the said list. It seems that while calculating the distance from International Border the agency who was at the helm of affairs may have visited the area on vehicle and distance taken as per Speedometer of the vehicle used for the purpose. J&K Social Welfare Department, has issued S.O. 226 on dated 17th July, 2020 which is a good step to safe guard the interest of unemployed youth residing within the area of 0-6KMs from International Border and have allowed the benefits of reservation under J&K Reservation Rules,2005. As per S.O.226 Para third, the Social Welfare Department vide letter no. SW/BW/01/2015 dated 22.01.2019 requested Divisional Commissioner, Jammu/ Kashmir to provide the details of villages situated within a distance of 0-6 KMs from International Border. In turn, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu vide letter No. 301/893/reserve/IB/2111-16 dated 25-1-2019 provided the list of total 508 villages of districts of Jammu (293),Samba (142) and Kathua (73).
