Early Times Report

SUNDERBANI, July 28: This may sound bizarre but it is true! A well constructed in the Barnara village in Nallah Panchayat in this tehsil of Rajouri district has developed cracks only five days after being commissioned. Reports said that sub-standard material was used in the construction of the well and the whole thing was carried out under the nose of Rural Development Department (RDD). The cracks are quite visible in the well and that too from a distance. The locals of the village are quite perplexed as well as aghast over the disturbing development.
Early Times has learnt from sources that the construction of well was carried out by the Naib Sarpanch along with the Panchs of the Panchayat. They said the construction was carried out in contravention since the well has come up near a river in the area and not in the village so as to give benefits to the local population.
“Although the work on well was completed just few days back a payment of Rs. 60,000 was made a month back. The total estimate of the work was put at two lakh rupees. The money has gone down the drain since sub-standard material has been used in the construction of the well,” said sources. When contacted, Village Level Worker (VLW) Sheel Kumar said that the well has been constructed by the Panchayat representatives and GRS. The concerned GRS has already been transferred following allegations of corruption against him. The locals have urged Secretary RDD Sheetal Nanda to order a vigilance probe in the matter.
