Bold Decision | | | Jammu and Kashmir Government modifying the COVID-19 protocol by asking the asymptomatic positive patients with no underlying conditions to stay at home is a bold move. In J&K UT of 18000 people, who tested positive for this deadly virus, 10,000 have recovered and the recovery rate across the country is also increasing. Anti-viral drugs which have come in the market during the past few months too are helping the people and plasma therapy is also working. There are reports that human trials of COVID-19 vaccine are also in the final stages. As the positive cases are increasing in J&K, hospitals are finding it hard to accommodate the patients. Doctors and experts are of the opinion that asymptomatic patients with no co-morbidities can stay in isolation within their homes. They have suggested that with oxymeter and medicines and they can get cured. So the bottomline seems to be that cure to some extent has been found and difficult times are all set to get over. National capital, Delhi was the hub of COVID-19 just few days ago and people were being reportedly asked to pay in lakhs to secure a bed in any private hospital. After the reports surfaced that hospitals are charging exorbitant amounts to admit COVID patients, Delhi government modified the protocol and advised the positive patients with no underlying ailments to take precautions and stay at home. At present the occupancy of beds in hospitals in Delhi has declined and health facilities are not overcrowded. J&K administration has taken a bold decision by changing the COVID-19 protocol with a hope that recovery rate will increase and coming days will be brighter. The dark clouds which had engulfed the world soon after the outbreak of COVID-19 are slowly fading away. Ray of hope is emerging. With the change in COVID-19 guidelines, the load on health facilities will decrease. It will provide a breather to the doctors and medicos handling the COVID-19 patients. This will also help in saving the lives of critical patients, who need oxygen and ventilator support. Slowly it’s becoming clear that we have to learn to live with COVID-19 and we can fight it even within our homes. When patients are sent into isolation they feel depressed and are under stress. Staying at home helps in keeping them mentally, emotionally and psychologically strong. This move has worked in Delhi and one hopes that it works in Jammu and Kashmir also. |
