NAGROTA, July 28: On the sixth day of its sit-in-dharna, Sangarash Samiti today urged the administration to resume the work on the Government Degree College at Nagrota, saying laying of foundation stones is not enough to create the illusion of development. Senior leaders, including BDC Chairperson Choudhry Rehmat Ali and Block National Conference President Mr Rameshwar Dutt expressed surprise over delaying the work, adding that there seems to be no accountability, least to speak of monitoring the works. They said that laying of the foundation stone by Commissioner/ Secretary Higher Education Department had generated a hope among the students about speedy completion of the college complex but instead a misinformation campaign has been launched about its relocation. They said the people will foil any such move, which is detrimental to the larger student community. They urged the concerned department to come up clear on the project, as taking people's patience for granted for a long time could be counter-productive. The construction of the college complex had been flagged as a priority project but given the lackadaisical attitude of the administration, there are apprehensions that some anti-people elements are mounting pressure for their vested interest, they added. They lamented over the insensitivity of the government, which has preferred to remain mute spectators to the plight of the protestors who are constrained to sit in the open in this scorching heat and the ongoing pandemic for securing the future of their children. Today’s dharna was staged by the prominent citizens of Panchayat Nadore while maintaining social distance and adhering to mandatory preventive protocols.
