L-G makes ramps, special toilets mandatory in all govt buildings | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 30: Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu on Thursday directed officers and all government agencies to make it mandatory to incorporate arrangements of ramp or lift and special toilets for specially-abled persons while undertaking construction of government buildings. These directions were passed after the Lieutenant Governor took note of difficulties being faced by the specially-abled persons on account of non-availability of facilities like ramp or lift and special toilets in public offices in Jammu and Kashmir. “It has been desired that appropriate instructions to all the concerned authorities be issued to make provisions of ramp/lift and special toilets for specially-abled persons mandatory while taking up construction of the government buildings across Jammu and Kashmir,” an official spokesperson said. Accordingly, all administrative secretaries, head of departments, district development commissioners and all government construction agencies were directed that while undertaking construction of the government buildings, especially those pertaining to departments with significant public dealing, it would be mandatory to incorporate arrangements of ramp/lift for specially-abled persons. Besides, provisions for special toilets will also be incorporated in these building designs.
