Farmers, land owners face undue harassment, denied fair compensation: Balwan | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 1: Lashing out at the union government led by the BJP and UT administration for the undue harassment to the land owners and farmers, former MLA and General Secretary J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Thakur Balwan Singh said that low assessment of compensation of their lands for the Ring Road project in Jammu, and demolition drive without payment of adequate compensation to the affected people is injustice with them. In a statement, Thakur Balwan Singh said that the farmers and land owners are struggling for past quite sometimes for seeking their due compensation as per market rates. But the authorities have crushed their voice and have not sympathetically considered their genuine demands. They were being offered meager compensation for the lands worth crores of rupees, which is totally anti-farmers and ant- people approach of BJP government and J&K UT administration. It is unfortunate that the authorities have resorted to demolition of their houses and shops without proper time and without paying compensation, which most unfortunate that the voice of the peaceful people of Jammu is being crushed, he said. Singh said that Land Acquisition Act of 2003 provides 4 times compensation of the prevalent rates but the BJP government did not apply those beneficial provisions and even ignored their demands for a fair compensation equivalent to market rates. This resulted into death of a father and son in Bishnah area due to depression. He fully supported the demands of the farmers and land owners and asked the government to desist from coercive actions. |
