Allow resumption of mining activity in Samba, demands vehicle operators | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
SAMBA, Aug 13: After ban of several months on mining in district Samba was lifted last month, the local miners heaved a sigh of relief and their hopes were further rekindled when the auction process was completed a month ago. But till date the mining operations have not been started due to which the tipper and dumper owners are facing a lot of troubles as they are unable to collect sand and gravel and supply them for the construction activities going on in the area. Seeking anonymity few dumper and tipper owners said that they have already faced a lot of problems due to ban on mining in Samba while the lockdowns due to Corona pandemic completely ruined their business as their vehicles remained stranded. “Amid all these losses, we are burdened further with the payments of vehicle installments,” they said. They further said a few months ago the royalty tender was done in Samba but the mining has not been started yet, adding that they are waiting for the mining to get operationlized for the last many days but it is yet to take off. They urged the Deputy Commissioner Samba to issue directions to start the mining work in Samba at the earliest so that they can resume their works and earn their livelihood. When contacted, District Mining Officer Samba, Vishal Dogra said that the auction process has been completed but the environmental clearance is still pending, adding that as soon as the environmental clearance is cleared we will allow the mining.
