Before Sinha, former top cop was probable LG | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 13: Even as Manoj Sinha has been appointed as the new Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, a former top cop was also among the probable faces for the chair. Sources said around a fortnight ahead of August 5, when Bharatiya Janta Party top brass in the national capital decided to replace GC Murmu, the former police official who has served as a Director General of Police in Jammu and Kashmir was among the probable faces. What was seen as his added advantage was that he had also served at a top position in the Intelligence Bureau and “thus knew Kashmir much better.” Sources said while the policy makers in the government were in favor of the former police official to succeed Murmu, some of the top politicians were in favor of Sinha. Sources said Sinha was finally selected on reason that instead of a former official chance be given to a politician as New Delhi is much interested to revive political activities in the region. Sources said it was decided that politicians in Jammu and Kashmir would be “more comfortable for any negotiation with someone from a political background than a former police official.” Sources said after around three top level meetings on the issue, it was decided that Manoj Sinha was the better choice. “A veteran politician who has remained a minister and the Member Parliament and is also a technocrat became the preference,” said a source in New Delhi privy to the developments. Sources said Prime Minister Narendra Modi enjoys good relations with Sinha and this came as added advantage as the PM wanted someone like-minded to run the affairs in Jammu and Kashmir. It is pertinent to mention that apart from being M Tech, Manoj Sinha is seen among the most honest politicians in India. As per a survey by a media house, he figures in the list of most honest politicians. |
