Contractors awaiting payments of completed works for last 8 months | | | ASHWANI SHARMA EARLY TIMES REPORT
UDHAMPUR, Aug 19: Contractors who repaired the power generation canal from Chenani to Dipper in Udhampur district about eight months back are still awaiting the payments from Power Development Corporation (PDC). One of these contractors, on the condition of anonymity, informed that the payments worth about Rs 8 crore are pending towards the contractors. He also said that some of the contractors have completed the work by taking loans for which they are paying interests and it has now become very tough to manage all such finances due to the ongoing lockdown restrictions because of Coronavirus pandemic. Another contractor said that the PDC was offering them 25 percent of the amount but they insisted for full payments as they have to repay the loans which they had secured to complete the work of repair of canal which they completed in scheduled time. When contacted, Chief Engineer Manjeet Kotwal said earlier the payment was delayed due to Coronavirus triggered lockdown and now as the new Lieutenant Governor has taken over the issue will be sorted out soon after the LG chairs the board of governance meeting. However, the contractors have appealed to the LG Manoj Sinha to look into the issue so that they may heave a sigh of relief.
