Encroachments in Bhambla on Jammu-Poonch NHW, authorities unaware | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
REASI, Aug 26: Encroachments on government land and property is quite a common phenomenon in J&K, largely due to the negligence of the concerned authorities. In a similar incident, encroachment has taken place on Jammu-Poonch National Highway (NHW) in Bhambla area of Reasi district there by narrowing the width of the ever busy road. Sources informed Early Times that some shopkeepers have extended their shops so much so that that they are almost touching the alignment of Jammu-Poonch Highway in Bhambla but the Border Roads Organization (BRO), the agency entrusted with the job to maintain the road remained mute spectator to the encroachments. These encroachments on National Highway area are causing huge traffic jams as the road has become congested with the extension of shops. Locals have appealed to Lieutenant Governor of J&K and Chief Engineer of Border Roads Organization to intervene in the matter and issue directions to the concerned departments to remove these illegal encroachments from Jammu-Poonch National Highway at an earliest. Assistant Commissioner Revenue Reasi in this regard said, "He will direct the concerned authorities only if he gets a written representation. GREF has its own Eviction Officer and he can approach the department to evict encroachers,” adding that and they will be provided assistance of police, if required.
